As we begin to close out this 21 days of prayer and fasting, be diligent to maintain your focus. What have you been seeking the Lord for? Is it Wisdom you lack? Is it breakthrough in relationships? Whatever it may be, continue to keep it before the Lord as you set time aside to seek Him. Without the vision before you, it becomes easy to drift and before you know it you’ve engaged in a diet instead of a consecrated time unto the Lord. Proverbs says it like this, “Without vision people cast off restraint.” (Proverbs 29:18)
In the book of Ezra we see the people of God engage in fasting and prayer with a specific end in mind.
And there by the Ahava Canal, I gave orders for all of us to fast and humble ourselves before our God. We prayed that he would give us a safe journey and protect us, our children, and our goods as we traveled. 22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen[f] to accompany us and protect us from enemies along the way. After all, we had told the king, “Our God’s hand of protection is on all who worship him, but his fierce anger rages against those who abandon him.” 23 So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer.—Ezra 8:21-23
As we see in the text, Ezra and the people of God were journeying through a territory known for thieves and bandits. They decided to believe God at His word and rely on Him for protection over all they held dear. The story goes on to reveal that every person and every ounce of treasure they traveled with was accounted for. Their prayers were answered! I pray for you, that in the journey of this year before us, you would see the manifest blessing and protection of God Almighty. May HE protect you, your children, and all your goods as you move forward into all He has prepared.
Father, I thank you that your desire is for me and my family to prosper this year. I ask for your protection upon me, my family, and every resource you have given me. Thank you for your faithfulness and for showing yourself strong on my behalf. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
